K-Pop is the shortened version of Korean popular music, which is a genre that originated in South Korea. When you take the time to listen to K-Pop, you will find yourself hearing hip hop, rock, pop, electronic, and even R&B music. Those that keep up to date with different music will know that K-Pop has been around since the 1990s, but it didn’t truly become popular until the early 2000s.
The popularity of this music genre is not just from the music itself. Instead, it is a combination of the storytelling, the catchy tunes, the costumes and colors that are used within the videos, the choreography that is used for all the dance moves, and multitalented artists that do this type of music.
K-Pop Groups to Start Listening to First
BTS is considered the most popular K-Pop group, which is not surprising since they have had the number one song on iTunes in more than sixty-five countries. This group is comprised of four singers, Jin, V, Jimin, and Jungkook, and three rappers, J-Hope, RM, and Suga, and they mix pop, rap, EDM, and hip-hop into their music. Red Velvet is a group of five girls that bring it all to the stage and their music. Every new single they introduce has a new sound or concept, and they even have English versions of many of their hits. There are nine boys in the group EXO, and they are constantly trying to reinvent themselves as they grow a little older each year. They sound amazing when they are singing, but it is their videos that will capture your attention and bring you back for more. Oh, and they have been around for seven years now, so don’t think they are going away anytime soon!
